  • Origin of Trivia is NOT so Trivial. Trivia are unimportant or trivial items, especially of Information. In the late 20th century, the expression came to apply to information of the kind useful almost exclusively for answering quiz questions. A perfect trivia question is one that initially stumps the listener, but the answer subsquently sounds familiar once revealed. Otherwise, the question would be considered either too familiar and therefore not trivia, or so unfamiliar and obscure as to be unanwerable and not as entertaining. The collection of trivia or a study of Trivia is known as SPERMOLOGY. this literally means collection of seeds. The origin of the word starts from 'Tri' meaning three, and 'via' meaning way, road. This word TRIVIA was popularised by two students of Columbia University - Ed Goodgold & Dan Carlinsky as early as the 1960s. They created the earliest inter-collegiate quizzes that tested culturally important and unimportant facts, which they dubbed "trivia contests." Presently, the largest trivia contest is held at the University of Wisconsin's Community Radio Station. Rajaputhran. by Ed Goodgold / Dan Carlinsky.
